Description

The Temple of Debod, a relic from the 2nd century BCE, was gifted to Spain from the Egyptian government in appreciation for their assistance in saving the Abu Simbel temples. Located in Madrid's Cuartel de la Montaña Park near Plaza España, Parque del Oeste, and Casa de Campo, the 2200-year-old temple was originally constructed under the rule of Meroë King Adijalamani and later expanded by the Ptolemaic dynasty and Roman emperors. While the area holds a somber history, it is now a peaceful site, welcoming visitors to picnic, practice yoga, and watch the sunset. Highlights of the temple include the Vestíbulo de Augusto, the Capilla de Adijalamani, and the Vestíbulo de Naos.
