Description

A massive church in Madrid

Basilica de San Isidro is a gigantic twin towered church formerly part of the famed Jesuit College. The church acted as the main city cathedral until Almudena was completed. Designed by Pedro Sanchez, the church was built in the 17th century. The remains of San Isidro himself are entombed here.

An interesting story surrounds the remains of San Isidro and his wife, Santa María de la Cabeza. Every Easter, the two images of two images of these patrons are taken out an paraded around the streets of the city in honor of them. The beautiful church is well worth a visit.
